Intimate health, sex education, and genuine connection: a conversation about LAB46 at your local pharmacy.

Community, LAB46 Updates 1 Feb 2026

Manuel Wendl, mag. pharm.

LAB46 stands for science, openness and self-determination - topics that are also finding their place in more and more local pharmacies.

The Johann-Strauß-Apotheke in Vienna has been a LAB46 partner pharmacy since 2024 and is considered a pioneer when it comes to sensitive advice in the area of intimate health.

We worked with Mag. pharm. Manuel Wendl talked about intimate health, education and the tension between taboo and openness.

LAB46: Dear Manuel, as an inclusive pharmacy in the heart of Vienna, you show with expertise, empathy and attitude what modern healthcare can look like. You stand for an open, respectful and contemporary approach to body and health. What does this really mean in everyday life?

Manuel Wendl: We see ourselves as an inclusive pharmacy. Our society is colorful and diverse. This inclusive and, above all, nonjudgmental approach to one another makes the difference for us. No matter who is standing in front of us, no matter what their request - we are happy to be there, even if every now and then it only comes with a smile as a thank you.

LAB46: Intimate health is a difficult topic for many men. Why is it so difficult to talk about it openly?

Manuel Wendl: Sexuality is being communicated more and more openly, but insecurities, deficits or simply a lack of information on certain topics are not discussed. We are uncomfortable because we are afraid of judgment. We want to talk openly about the less glamorous lifestyle topics. In addition, in a world full of information abundance, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find qualitative and individual information.

LAB46: The Johann-Strauß-Apotheke was the first pharmacy to include LAB46 products in its range. What convinced you?

Manuel Wendl: The topic of “sexual health” is by far our biggest focus of advice and is becoming increasingly important. Your products have closed a fundamental gap for us between advice and application. Of course I can recommend a lot, but I know it from my own experience: If something has to work long-term, it has to be simple and practical.

LAB46: Many people not only look for products in the pharmacy, but also trust and understanding. How do you create this closeness, especially on topics that are usually not discussed so openly?

Manuel Wendl: Everyone deals with these topics differently, which is why we have created different settings and spaces in which everyone can decide for themselves how they want to interact with us. No matter whether at the counter, in our intimate consultation corner, via WhatsApp or social media. We can always be reached. Ultimately, everyone wants to be seen and understood. We do not judge the person or the problem.

LAB46: If you look into the future, what does a pharmacy look like to you that naturally integrates intimate health into its advice?

Manuel Wendl: I hope that we will be able to offer more services in the future. We have so many opportunities to support people in a wide variety of life situations and at all stages of life. My wish would be greater awareness among the population that modern pharmacies are not just a place for illness, but rather multifunctional health centers that are there for people during generous opening hours - at any time and without prior appointment.

LAB46: Thank you, dear Manuel, for the conversation - and for showing how education, empathy and specialist knowledge belong together.
